Since English Composition I is coming to an end there is a lot of things I enjoyed while attending this class. Although I wasn't the best at being on time I still tried my best and made an effort to attend every class although I was late. There is a lot of things that learned over the course of these six weeks that really helped improve my writing skills. At the beginning of the course I set a couple of goals that I wanted to accomplish in my firs blog post. Now looking back on those goals I did achieve many of them but the perspective I had of the class before starting was totally different from what it turned out to be. I was not expecting Mr. Sabatino class to be so enthusiastic and exciting as it was. Although I really hated coming to class since it was the summer time I did enjoy coming because it wasn't as boring. So for not having a boring class Thank You! Mr. Sabatino! you will be recommended by me.

In today’s civilization food insecurity is one of the biggest
problems Americans face in their day to day lives. Not knowing where your next meal is going to come, how you’re going to feed your children, or most importantly not being able to afford a simple meal to feed your household. The food insecurity that a lot of Americans face today is not so much of what they’re going to eat, it more focused on the how and what can they afford to eat. Even those who are employed still suffer from food insecurity in America. In the documentary “A Place at The Table” the producers of the film traveled to multiple states across the U.S. and recorded different families and their insights about their everyday struggle and how they define and face food insecurity inside of their homes. For example, Tremoncia, a Mississippi 5th grader who suffers from asthma and health issues and her mother explains why she suffers from these types of conditions and how it affects their everyday lives. In the documentary Tremoncia mom explains their household situation and how they try to deal with food insecurity. She starts by explaining the type of area that they live in, where she works, and how and what types of food she is able to provide for her household. She states that she to work two jobs because working one is not enough to make ends meet. She also says that a lot of the food that are purchased from their local grocery store are not as fresh or she is unable to healthy food or snacks for Tremoncia because of a low income. So in result these are some of the reasons why Tremoncia would be having health issues especially related to her weight. If Tremoncia mother can only afford to buy cookies, juice, and other unhealthy snacks instead of fruits, vegetables, and other healthy food this sometimes can cost a child to come in contact with obesity. For many, not being able to afford food as well as healthy food is the problem that leads up to food insecurity. Nutrition is important for a healthy life. Many people around the country are still hungry even though there is mass production of food. In today’s society we see many obese people because of the high intake of high cholesterol and fat from food. It is always good to have nutritional intake along with an healthy diet for individuals to have good physical and mental health. Now a day’s healthy food are getting more expensive than unhealthy foods. Most people who live in lower class areas or come from lower class families are forced to eat these unhealthy foods while, the rich or people who can afford to eat healthy eat whatever they want. Food insecurity is caused by individuals not having healthy food for their families due to their low income or political and economic conditions of the country. In addition, to not being able to afford healthy or any food at all these reasons are also why a lot of Americans do look into government assistance programs such as SNAP(Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program). But, by even looking into these programs they are not always as free just because it is provided by the government. There are certain criteria’s a person must fulfill in order to be eligible for SNAP. For instance, your income must be below a certain amount to even be considered for SNAPS. Most Americans would also say if accepted by for the SNAPS program the money that is provided may still not be enough to fulfill their household needs. Even with the help of SNAPS food prices will still remain the same and trying to maintain a healthy diet for your family may still seem impossible. 1.) Should America provide more funding for SNAP? If so, how much of
an increase? If not, how does the current funding seem appropriate? Ans. No, America should not provide more funding because one most Americans abuse the importance of SNAP. Plus it is based on eligibility of a household income, so one Is basically getting free money that they have to maintain for a certain period of time. 2.) How should Americans define “food insecurity?” How should Americans define “starving? What solutions can Americans use to overcome food insecurity and starving in America? Ans. Americans should define "food insecurity" as a condition that leads to ongoing unavailability of food. It is something one has to worry about day and night as to where their next meal is going to come from. As far as the solutions to help food insecurity and starvation Americans should just take an extra step to help prevent this problem. Whether its too increase s.n.a.p.s, open up more charity organizations to help feed those in need, or protest to make more healthier foods cheaper so that it can be affordable. 3.)Do you live in a food desert? How can America feed people who live in food deserts? Ans. No, I do not live in a food desert because I have a lot of food resources around me. America can feed people who live in food deserts by making food more accessible to people in need or maybe by producing closer agriculture. 4.) Should America rely on charities to feed the hungry? How much of a reliance? Ans. Yes, America should rely in charities to feed the hungry because that's what most charities are there for. Also if people didn't take their time to make these private or public charities there would probably still be thousands of more hungry people around the country. 5.) In what ways can America better subsidize the farming industry and its crop production? Ans. America can better subsidize the farming industry and crop production by providing more funding towards crop production. 6.)What are the most common myths and misconceptions about those who depend on food banks and other food assistance programs? Ans. There are a lot of misconceptions about those who depend on food assistance programs. For example most people feel as though people who do receive assistance are unemployed and like the fact that can receive free food stamps or cash assistance form the govt. But, what most people fail to realize is that is not exactly true. Some just happen to have set backs in their lives or have to face certain circumstances that causes them to have to rely on the government for help. The movie “A Place At The Table” is basically a documentary that
advocates millions of Americans who face world hunger. This documentary focuses on real interviews from different civilians around the state and how they define “food insecurity” as well as how it affects their everyday lives. It also gives examples from different people on how they struggle with every day hunger or how they’re not eligible for public assistance aka S.N.A.P.S. For example Barbie who is a single mother and a parent of two kid’s talks about her struggle and how it is hard to maintain groceries based on your income. Barbie also talks about the emotions of how people who do have to struggle to feed their children or do not actually know where their next meal is going to come from. In addition, the documentary also focuses on other issues like agriculture and obesity and how it affects the how people are forced to live and eat because of the lack of economic growth. New School Fresh Meat New day new school oh boy! how fun might that be ok let's go! Get out my mom yells I opened the door and hoped out the truck Good morning ladies how can I help you? the secretary says from behind the desk Yes, transfer student Can I get my class schedule new classes and new halls new students, new teachers, and the old me I walked in found a seat and sat down and then I saw three new faces Jamilah, Mirna, and Porsha in my head I knew I didn't want any new friends so from here there was no new friends just associates! By this afternoon the weather had gotten a little warm but you could still feel the cool breeze as the favorite season of all spring was indeed on its way. When I looked across the street to the left of me I could see that we weren't the only ones speed walking to broad and Logan. Some people were even running and it was then that I knew something was about to go down and it was more serious than I thought. When I got to the train station all I could see was a huge crowd of boys and girls standing waiting around. But apart from that it was a horrible stench that was giving me the Bg's which of course almost made me puke! The scent was so awful that it smelled like dog poop, sweaty football socks, and homeless people piss all in one. On top of that you could also feel the dirty rust water that dripped from the train tracks above our heads. Then I could hear someone from behind me yelling " I hope she's ready! where she at? because Jamilah and her family running down here right now". Within in a split second there she was with her hands already thrown up running towards B screaming " wassup wassup what's all that shit you were saying earlier!" When they finally had gotten face to face there was no more talking to do jamilah threw the first punch and it was on after that.
So I just got transferred from my old high school to a new one because unfortunately they were closing down. I'm on my way to my first lunch feeling a little shy because for one I was now the new girl and two I didn't know anyone except for the two black girls I had met in English along with the pretty Mexican girl with pretty long brown hair. Since they were the only three people that I knew in the entire school I figured I mines as well sit with them at lunch. As we sat down after getting our lunch I started to notice that this high school was exactly how high school looked on TV. All the football players sat together, and of course the basketball, track, baseball, soccer, and all of the above as well. Last but not least the Boogies! At least that's what I called them because they were so loud, obnoxious, and conceited. But out of them all it was this one girl called B and from the way that the girl I had just met today and B looked at each other I could already tell this was going to be long semester. Of I called already since the beef in the air but, one I knew it wasn't my beef and I could care less about it. One thing was for sure though I think these girls probably thought that I would back them up if anything went down, but truth be told it was only my first day and I could really care less for friends. while trying to attempt to write a paper. Like for instance thinking processes of trying to develop an idea that will help you write a paper. A lot of students may have trouble trying to come up with ideas that will them write a paper. So instead they would hold off on writing a paper by, watching TV, getting on social networks or even going to hang out with friends. These are some of the things that can be major distractions to college students. Especially for me as well because these are also the distractions that I face while trying to write a paper. Apart from the distractions I do believe that I can become a better writer by finding a new way that will help me keep focus while trying to construct my paper to become a better writer. In my opinion I am not sure how I would define a "better writer" but what I will say it is probably someone who has the ability to brainstorm, construct, write, and criticize their own work without any help from someone else. But, in order to become better in my opinion there might be a couple of strategies you can use to help better your writing. Like one pay attention, two do not procrastinate, three Brain storm, four Find a comfortable environment that will be less of a distraction, five Talk it Through, and last Write about Things you Know. |
